  • Suing the National Marine Fisheries Service to enforce the Marine Mammal Protection Act.
  • Challenging a City of West Hollywood ordinance on constitutional grounds for prohibiting the use of mobile billboards as a form of free speech.

Recent victories:

March 2008--Won an emergency motion from the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals to allow the City of San Diego to install a rope barrier to protect pregnant and nursing harbor seals after a state court blocked the measure.

January 2008--Obtained a dismissal in Fashion Valley Mall v. Animal Protection and Rescue League, upholding the group's right to hold anti-fur protests on mall property that is open to the public pursuant to the California Constitution.

May 2007--Settled a case against the City of San Diego to allow amplified sound as a form of free speech and to require the police department to exercise its discretion to enforce an ordinance prohibiting harassment of marine mammals.

February 2006--Obtained an order granting a request for a preliminary injunction requiring Sinclair Oil Corporation (dba Westgate Hotel Company) to allow free speech activity on their property that is outside and open to the public in San Diego.

February 2006--Won a lawsuit to strike down an anti-solicitation ordinance in San Diego on free speech grounds.
